Admission registers - Mount Gambier Hospital (GRS/13096)

This series consists of admission registers of the Mount Gambier Hospital. Admission registers were also called patient registers or inpatient registers and record all patients admitted to the Hospital.

Unitl 1955 information recorded included name, age, marital status, religion, date of admission, date of discharge, date of death (if applicable), residence, condition on leaving, disease, under what conditions admitted, and remarks. The earliest volume (1869 - 1891) also recorded place of birth, country of origin, by what ship arrived and length of time in the Colony. From 1955, the nearest relative (or responsible person) and the medical officer was also recorded as well as other information about hospital benefits (public or private patient etc.) and classifications, and from 1956 the relative/responsible person column also included employer name for workers compensation cases. By 1976 the amount of information actually recorded began to decline with the occupation, marital status and religion columns left blank.

Arranged chronologically. Patient details are entered over facing pages. The volumes covering the financial years 1971/1972 (Units 26 and 27), 1972/1973 (Units 28 and 29), 1973/1974 (Units 30 and 31) and 1974/1975 (Units 32 and 33) are split into two volumes where the final page of the volume covering the first half of the financial year contains the left facing page and the first page of the volume covering the second half of the financial year contains the right facing page.
