'In Need of Care' case files, annual single number series - Adelaide Children's Court (GRS/13762)

This series consists of case files relating to applications for declaration that a child is in need of care (INOC), lodged by the Minister of Community Welfare. The files may also relate to applications to vary or revoke INOC orders.

The files may contain applications on Form 1 S.12 'Children's Protection and Young Offenders Act, 1979'. Application by the Minister of Community Welfare for a Declaration that a child is In Need of Care and Notice of Hearing, Form 12 (S.14(5) and S15) Application to discharge and substitute, vary or terminate an order under Section 14, correspondence, transcripts and court orders.

In 1984 the Court sought to differentiate these case files from others by distinguishing them by green coloured cover sheets, and then registering them separately. The cover sheets contained information on Action No. Adelaide Children's Court, Minister of Community Welfare - v- Application for declaration that a child is In Need of Care, Hearing Dates and Final Order(s), with additional actions written on the obverse if necessary.

Pursuant to S.14(4) or 16(3) of the 'Children's Protection and Young Offender's Act, 1979' the children were placed under the guardianship of the Minister during any period of adjournment.

The related INOC index, 1980 - 1990 confirms that this separate series existed, while files that post-date it confirm that the INOC files were subsequently maintained within the main Youth Court series (GRS 11475).
