Description
This series comprises correspondence files ('CER' dockets) of the Chief Engineer for Railways, from 1909 to 1928.
This series began in 1909, when the Engineer-in-Chief ceased to hold the parallel titles of Engineer of Railways and Harbors and Jetties, and a separate position of Chief Engineer for Railways was created. The series appears to have ended in 1928, with later correspondence of the Chief Engineer for Railways being filed on the South Australian Railways [SAR] docket series started in 1929.
These files document the activities of the Chief Engineer of Railways in relation to the building and maintenance of permanent way i.e. railway lines, and associated structures such as bridges and culverts. For information on rolling stock, see correspondence files of the Chief Mechanical Engineer [GRS 7867].
Arranged by annual single number.
