Correspondence files ('RO' and 'SED' dockets) - State Electoral Department (GRG43/8)

This series comprises annual single number dockets and files created by the Returning Officer for the Province, the Returning officer for the State and the State Electoral Department, later State Electoral Office.

The series begins with buff coloured dockets, titled office of the Returning Officer for the Province (c 1884 - 1901), later State (c1901 - 1909), then buff coloured dockets titled State Electoral Department. The series later comprises A4 buff coloured file covers, titled the same way.

The State Electoral office has used the same annual single number sequence of files since the beginning of the Agency in 1907, following on from the annual single number sequence of the "Office of the Returning Officer".

Files were originally controlled by index cards, which as at 2008, were retained by the Agency for active use.
