Description
This series contains correspondence received by the Central Board of Education. Incoming letters were placed in docket covers titled 'Education Office'. A copy of the response was not included in the file, but a summary of the response was noted on the docket cover. Further information about this correspondence may be recorded in the minutes of the Board [GRG50/1].
Subjects covered in these files include: requests from District Councils for subsidies to build school rooms, applications for a teacher's licence, applications from teachers for leave and reports on conditions of schools.
It is not known when this series began, as only files 221-799 of 1875 have survived (with gaps). This series ended in 1875 when the Central Board of Education was replaced by the Council of Education after the passing of the Education Act, 1875. The Council started a new series of dockets starting at file 1/1875 [GRG50/3].
