Description

This series contains the correspondence files of the State Tourist Bureau and successor agencies, the Intelligence and Tourist Bureau and the Publicity and Tourist Bureau.

The dockets consist of letters and other documents received by the Bureau, memoranda of action taken, internal reports or inquiries, and copies of letters sent. A correspondence file generally only relates to one particular subject or individual, but documents received over a number of years may be the placed in the same file. The file cover may be annoted with the file numbers of related files.

Relates to government advertisements soliciting immigration, weekly bulletins of 'Items of Interest' for Agent General and High Commissioner in London, tours, publicity, finances, staff and trade and economic issues. Includes correspondence of the Superintendent of the Government Motor Garage, as well as correspondence of the Director, Victor Ryan relating to activities of the State War Council, State Munitions Committee and State Recruiting Campaign.

Files relating to immigration matters only appear in this series from 1924. Prior to that date, the Immigration Officer maintained a separate set of correspondence dockets relating to immigration (see GRG7/23).

Correspondence files relating to intelligence (publicity) prior to 1912 form GRG7/27. Correspondence files relating to National Pleasure Resorts prior to 1918 form GRG1/68.

This series continues as GRS 6835.

Arranged by annual single number with prefixes 'TB' (Tourist Bureau), 'I&TB' (Intelligence and Tourist Bureau), 'PTB' and 'P&TB' (Publicity and Tourist Bureau). 58 metres.
