Description
In 1993 the Children's Court of South Australia was superseded by the Youth Court of South Australia.
As at 2006, the Youth Court has three separate administrative branches -
(1) Court Registry - deals with all matters referred to and by the Youth Court. The court hears trials and guilty pleas in criminal cases for youths under the age of 18 years, child protection applications and applications for the adoption of children.
(2) Family Conference Team - conducts family conferences for young offenders.
(3) The Care and Protection Unit - conducts family care meetings.
The court is comprised of two District Court judges, one of whom is designated by proclamation as the senior judge of the Youth Court, plus two specialist magistrates.
