Description
Port Pirie was a large lead smelting town with a large port and railway facility. In more recent years the population has decreased to under 14,000 due to unemployment.
Initially the school was call Port Pirie Primary School but this changed to Port Pirie West Primary School in approximately 1978. The school logo reads "The Friendly School" under the fish symbol.
The school celebrated its 125th birthday on the 16th, 17th August 2002. Being the oldest school in Port Pirie it has made a significant contribution to the history of education in the area. Current [2002] enrolment is in the vicinity of 300 students.
