About this agency
Description
The Boys Reformatory was initially located at Magill on the same site as the Industrial School. It opened in 1869, at the same time as the Industrial School, and was run by the Destitute Board.
In 1880, the Reformatory was relocated to the Hulk 'Fitzjames', which had at least two moorings: Largs Bay and the False Arm. See GA3235 for information about the Fitzjames.
The Reformatory was transferred back to the Magill site in 1891 where it shared quarters with the Industrial School until 1898, at which time the Industrial School moved to Edwardstown.
In 1898, Catholic boys were transferred to Brooklyn Park (see GA3236) and the Boys Reformatory became an institution specifically for Protestant boys.
The Boys Reformatory was replaced in 1967 by a new institution on the same site, the McNally Training Centre (GA937).
