Description
On 23 May, 1901, Port Adelaide was proclaimed a City (1). It consisted of eight wards - East, West, Cleve, Queen, Rosatala, Birkenhead, Semaphore and Largs.
The following is a list of councils and corporations amalgamated with Port Adelaide:
GA 261 - Corporation of the Town of Semaphore
GA 262 - Rosewater District Council
GA 263 - Queenstown and Alberton District Council
GA 260 - Birkenhead District Council
GA 259 - Portland Estate District Council
On the 22 March 1996 the Corporation of the City of Port Adelaide and the Corporation of the City of Enfield were amalgamated becoming the City of Port Adelaide and Enfield.
