About this agency
Description
The Warooka district was severed from the District Council of Melville and proclaimed the District Council of Warooka on 7th June 1888 (1). The council had no wards, as most of the population was centred around Warooka and Corny Point.
In 1898, the Council met in offices at the rear of the Warooka Institute. In 1965, new Council offices and chambers were built in conjunction with the RSL hall.
A history of the area, "West of the Peesey: an account of a community : Warooka, Corny Point, Stenhouse Bay" was published by the Warooka Historical Committee in 1976.
In 1997, the District Councils of Minlaton, Warooka, Yorketown and Central Yorke Peninsula amalgamated to form the new District Council of Yorke Peninsula (II), gazetted on 10th February 1997.
