Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages (GA431)

Civil registration of births, deaths and marriages commenced in South Australia in 1842. The Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages is responsible for maintaining an accurate record of all births, deaths, marriages, changes of name, adoptions and sexual reassignments occurring and registered in South Australia. In addition, it is responsible for providing legally acceptable proof of births, deaths, marriages, changes of name, adoptions and sexual reassignments registered in South Australia. Furthermore, it provides for traditional 'registry office' civil marriage ceremonies in Adelaide.
