Corporation of the Town of Hindmarsh (GA651)

The district of Hindmarsh covered an area of western metropolitan Adelaide with many manufacturing industries. The resultant pollution in the River Torrens upstream from the town of Hindmarsh caused considerable dissent among the land holders in the western area of the District Council of Hindmarsh.

Consequently in October, 1874 the town area of Hindmarsh was split from the District Council and became a separate local government body, known as the Corporation of the Town of Hindmarsh.

In 1993 the Town of Hindmarsh amalgamated with the City of Woodville to form the City of Hindmarsh Woodville.
