Description
Building Management, a division within Services SA, from 1997 Department of Administrative and Information Services, provided: building asset advisory services to assist government agencies with planning and management of the maintenance, replacement, refurbishment or disposal of building assets; risk management services for the procurement of building capital works and project management for non-infrastructure agencies; project certification, heritage building conservation advice and disability access advice. It maintains a network of area offices to service government agencies in country South Australia.
This division of the Department for Administrative and Information Services provided: building management advisory services; risk management services to non-infrastructure agencies for the delivery of capital works, project management and cost management and building design services; contract management of the facilities management contracts; heritage building conservation; and disability access advice.
Building Management's Director (later Executive Director) was Mary Marsland. It originally belonged to the Project, Asset and Contract Services group that answered to the Deputy Chief Executive Anne Howe. Other divisions included Building Maintenance, Real Estate Management, Supply SA, Special Projects, and the Industrial and Commercial Premises Corporation.
The Business Review Unit (BRU) of the Department for State Government Services (operating as Services SA) was established in July 1996. In 1996 the Business Review Unit began a review of the operations of Building Maintenance and wider facilities management. Cabinet approved the development of contracts for Facilities Management Services in December 1997, following the establishment of DAIS and the contracts commenced in April 1998. Building Management was responsible for the procurement of facilities management services and for managing the government's facilties management contract. The Executive Director from 2004 was Judith Carr.
