About this agency
Description
The South Australian Land Commission [SALC] was established under the Land Commission Act 1973. The function of the Commission was to acquire land for present or future urban expansion or development, or for the establishment of new urban areas. Other functions include the managing or developing of the land, making the land available and arranging for the provision of services and amenities to the new urban areas (1).
In April 1980, further to a review by a Committee established by the Government in October 1979, the SALC was restricted to a principal role of providing an urban land bank of broadacres. These changes were incorporated into the new Urban Land Trust Act, 1981 which established the South Australian Urban Land Trust (SAULT), and dissolved the SALC. The new name of SAULT was considered more appropriate for the changed role (2).
