Description
The Premier is the Government's first Minister, and more recently, the Leader of the Governing party. The title of Premier has always been used to describe the leader of the government in the South Australian Parliament, but it was not a formal portfolio position until the formation of the Department of Premier in 1965 (1).
The first Premier gazetted as such was Francis Henry Walsh, on 18 March 1965 (2).
