Meadows District Council was created, on 1 May 1935, by the amalgamation of the District Councils of Echunga, Kondoparinga and Macclesfield and a portion of Clarendon District. The boundary with Willunga District was adjusted on 22 April 1937 (Meadows ceded 13 acres). The District was broken up on 1 July 1983: portions were transferred to Mount Barker and Strathalbyn Districts and the remainder became the Corporate Town of Meadows. (On 3 November it became the City of Happy Valley.)
