Description
The series consists of Acts of Parliament which have been signed by the Governor of South Australia. In effect these are the legal and binding copies of all Acts of Parliament as an Act is only enacted once it has been assented to by the Govenor as head of the Executive Council.
Four copies of the Acts are signed. One copy goes to each House of Parliament, one to the Supreme Court and one kept at Government House. This series is the Government House set.
For the period 1885 to 1891 the Acts are enclosed in Chief Secretary's Office dockets which may contain additional correspondence and reports.
For Acts signed 1841-1851, 1857 see GRG 59/40. For signed Acts 1989 onwards see GRS 3381.
For listing up to Act 1605 of 1924 see the Special List to GRG 2/55 in the Research Centre. The list imposes a sequential number, but the Acts are itemised by their original Act number.
Printed copies of South Australian Acts are also available in the Gepps Cross Research Centre.
An online image of the Constitution (Female Suffrage) Act, No. 613 of 1894 is available at www.foundingdocs.gov.au (South Australian section).
The series is arranged numerically (in order of Act) for each year.
