Description
This volume consists of copies of letters sent by the Secretary of the State Children's Council, J.R. Whiting to the Chief Secretary and the Under Secretary.
Subject matter includes extensions and reductions of children's sentences, stores, equipment, maintenance and staffing of the reformatories and the Industrial School, legislation, committals of children to the care of the Council, payment of young people's wages, release of children, transfers of children between institutions and foster parents etc.
At the front of the volume is a listing of letters in chronological order, giving page number of letter.
The volume ends abruptly in 1896 in the middle of the volume. The unused pages have been removed from the volume, but it is not clear whether this was before or after its use as a letter book.
