Description
This volume consists of copies of letters sent by the officers of the Destitute Board, chiefly the Secretary, Edward Holthouse.
The letters relate to applications for rations (outdoor relief) made by District Councils on behalf of residents in destitute circumstances; the administration of the Free School and inmates; contractors regarding supplies; complaints against staff (Nurse Winstanley gives Martha Smith a black eye); paternity of single women's infants and their support; maintenance of wives and children; medical assistance to the destitute poor; applications to indenture or foster children; admissions to the Destitute Asylum; applications for vacancies and pauper burials.
