Description

The Destitute Board operated the Lying-in Home which was a maternity home. The chronological register contains personal details; by which ship arrived; how long the person has been in the Australian colonies; date of arrival in South Australia; last place of residence; usual occupation and what employment now capable of; what relatives in the colony and where they are living; nationality; religion; recommendation; reasons for requiring admission; date of admission; date of leaving; and where gone to.

This series of admissions comprises 14 pages in the volume GRG28/6, 'Ledger of children boarded out'. These pages have also been copied and bound in a separate volume with copies of GRG28/33 List of children forwarded from the Destitute Asylum to the Roman Catholic Orphanage. However, the copied pages of this admission register have been bound out of order and may be difficult to use.
