Description
This series consists of the South Australian Police Gazettes for the period 1861-1973 (with gaps). The Police Gazette was issued for the information of police officers in the performance of their duties.
Police Gazettes contain information on offenders, absconders, apprehensions, prisoners tried at the Supreme Court, prisoners discharged (including photographs in later years), inquests, missing friends, desertion (wives, families, service), ships' deserters, and Police appointments.
5 metres. With gaps.
The State Library of South Australia has an unbroken set of Gazettes from 1868 - current.
The predecessor to the South Australian Police Gazette was the 'Hue and Cry' which was issued for the information of Police Officers and contained details of persons to be apprended, and stolen property. There appears to only one copy of this publication still extant - that of 17th December 1852 held by the State Library of South Australia. See also CSO 98/1861 (GRG24/6).
