Description
This series is an alphabetical index to personal files created by the Aborigine's Department.
The personal files were originally arranged alphabetically by surname, and in about 1966 a single sequential filing number was imposed on them. This index appears to have been created soon after the filing system was changed. The date range of the volume refers to the birthdates of persons indexed.
Information recorded in the index includes: name, date of birth (where known) and file number. The entries may also include alternate names, family connections and whether the individual was deceased at the time of the index's creation.
Personal files of deceased persons (as at c1971) were archived as GRG29/172. Those that were still active at this time may have been incorporated into later client files [GRG29/168]. Further information about the individuals can be found in the numerical index of personal files in GRG52/5.
The index is two volumes covering surnames ABBOT to RIGNEY (files 1 to c8400). Volume 2 is partially unused, so it appears that the indexing was abandoned at the name RIGNEY.
Entries arranged alphabetically.
