Indexes compiled in the South Australian Archives, later Public Record Office of South Australia (GRG56/68)

This series contains indexes, registers, and lists created by, or for, the South Australian Archives to make it easier to discover information within particular series' of records in the South Australian Archives collection, or within newspapers and other sources.

The indexes relate to a wide variety of subjects including, passenger lists, shipping, shipping casualties and shipwrecks, Government towns and townships, deaths, marriages, biographical cuttings, churches, Colonial Architect letter books, early South Australian buildings, hotels, Government (Colonial, later State) agencies, native names of geographical features, nomenclature of South Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia, historical publications and hsitorical articles in newspapers, accession lists, Parliamentary Papers, Research Notes, Census returns, inquests, etc.

Some indexes are available in the Research Centre (consignments 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 18, 20, 27, 45, 47, 48, 50), some have been coverted to Special Lists for the series to which they refer, and some need to be ordered to view.

The series date range refers to the approximate date of compilation of the index, not the date range that the index covers. See Consignments below for further information.
