Detention orders card index - Training Centre Review Board (Magill) (GRS/13367)

This series contains index cards of the Review Board's operations at the Magill Training Centre, formerly known as the South Australian Youth Training Centre (1979-1993), and McNally Training Centre (1967-1979). A card was created for each client who was given a Detention Order and who appeared before the Board.

Many cards for the years of birth 1962 to 1974 were stored at the Cavan Training Centre. A note has been typed on most of the 1961 to 1963 cards, and some of the 1964 cards, that the Review Board files were destroyed. Destruction occurred when the boy was over 18 years old.

The cards contain the following information: client name and date of birth, name of the court, date of detention, period of detention, offence, date of expiration of order, social worker's name and location, the names and addresses of the client's parents. They record the dates of the Review Board's hearings relating to the client and the outcomes of those hearings.

The cards were used by the Review Board as a reference to the client's history in detention. They were the only record of Review Board attendances, apart from the forms called Report from Training Centre Review Board, which included the Board's decision when it found a Breach had been proved. Each report was signed by the Board's Chairperson and placed in the client's Type 86 file (Secure Care file).

Results of the Training Centre Review Board's meetings (Magill) have been maintained since January 1999 in corporate files. The report of each hearing includes the names of the residing Board members, and the outcomes for each client who appeared before the Board.
