Patient particulars - McBride Maternity Hospital (GRS/13674)

This series contains exercise books kept by the McBride Maternity Hospital to record patient information.

The information recorded changes over time. From 1941 until 1952, information includes mother's name, maiden name, age, birthplace, father's name, age and birthplace, occupation, date and place of marriage, number of previous children, date and time of birth, baby's gender, mother's address and doctor/and or nurse attending the birth. Some entries also include baby's name.

From 1953 the information recorded is briefer and includes mother's name, address, date and time of birth, baby's gender and doctor and nurse/s attending the birth. Date and time of admission are also recorded from 1961. Address and even full name are often omitted in entries for unmarried mothers who stayed at the Hospital during their pregnancy. GRS 13678 contains further information about unmarried mothers for the period 1961 to 1964.

From 1974 the hospital ceased to operate exclusively as a maternity hospital and began to admit other patients. Entries from this period onwards record name, age, date of birth, name of contact person, address, date and time of admission, illness or condition and name of doctor.

There are gaps for the period 1954 to 1960.
