Description
This series contains a register maintained by McBride Maternity Hospital.
The pages of the volume are headed 'Lying-In Home Register - Pursuant to the State Children's Act 1895' (which licensed private lying-in homes, and allowed for their inspection by the State Children's Council).
Entries include name and usual residence of woman confined, date of confinement, name of doctor or midwife who attended during confinement, with whom the child left the home (with mother and her address, name and address of licensed foster mother, adoptive mother or near relative, or cause of death if deceased), date when woman left and date when child left. Entries for married women give surname only.
The register is arranged chronologically by date of admission to the hospital.
