Admission registers - Strathmont Special School, later Piddington Special School (GRS/13926)

This series comprises the admission registers for Strathmont Special School, later Piddington Special School, from 1971 to 1990.

Volume 1 was originally used to record the admissions to the Hillcrest Hospital School for the period February - November 1970 prior to that school closing and the pupils being transferred to the new Strathmont Training Centre School. Consequently the first two pages of volume one relate to Hillcrest Hospital School, with the following comment being recorded at the end of 1970:

"All above children effectively pupils of this school have been transferred to Strathmont Special School as of 1/1/1971. First register number for new pupils or transferees will be number 241. To create one roll, all transfers to Strathmont Special School from Glenside Special School will be added to this register. S.A. Walker, Headmaster 8/2/1971."

The series comprises four oversized volumes which list the date of admission, gender, register number, the name of student, date of birth, name of parent or guardian, occupation, residence, last school attended, gender, quarterly attendance, date of leaving, and remarks, which indicate if the student was discharged from Hospital, re-entered, left school etc.

Volume 4 has been used to record short term admissions from other schools for the period 1981 - 1988.

The front of the volumes contain a Register of Teachers in Charge page, which lists the signature, date taking charge, date of leaving, school transferred from, and remarks.

There are also Annual Return pages at the front of the volumes which list the annual number of students who attended, the number of days the school was open and the total number of attendances listed by quarter.

The registers are arranged in chronological order by the date of admission.
