Description
This series contains a register of patient admissions from both Hillcrest and Enfield Hospitals that appears to have been kept for statistical purposes.
From 1979, Hillcrest and Enfield Hospitals were incorporated under one Board of Management and, administratively, were considered to be the one hospital. Enfield was only a 'receiving' hospital, which treated patients for short periods of time. Hillcrest had receiving wards, which served the same purpose as Enfield, but also had longer-term wards. The hospitals appear to have allocated admission numbers to patients across both hospitals in order of admission, regardless of which hospital they were first admitted to.
The register records: date, number, and name. The number is a sequential annual single number and the hospitals appear to have allocated admission numbers to patients across both hospitals in order of admission, regardless of which hospital they were first admitted. There are separate columns for patients admitted and patients transferred (seemingly transferred to Hillcrest or Enfield from other hospitals) and these are separated into male or female and also listed under a code - 'D', 'V' or 'CL'. 'D' means 'detained', 'V' means 'voluntary' and 'CL' could refer to patients held under the Criminal Law Consolidation Act.
Following the admitted/transferred columns is a series of columns that appear to denote which ward the patient was in. These are identified only by initials and there is no key available in the register. Some wards have been identified though:
LH = Litchfield House (Hillcrest Receiving Ward)
HH = Howard House (Hillcrest Receiving Ward)
RH = Robertson House (Hillcrest Receiving Ward)
FH = Folland House (Hillcrest Receiving Ward)
Wat = Watson Ward (Enfield)
Reg = Regency Ward (Enfield)
MA = Markham Ward (Enfield)
Wi = Willis House (Enfield).
The other wards all appear to be from Enfield, including: AN, AP, APPS, AW, BA, CL, DA, DI, EM, ER, EW, GA, MAK, MC (or 'Mc'), MK, RA, RO, and SA.
From July 1980, wards are not included and the register only records: date, number, name, whether the patient was male or female, and if they were 'D', 'V' or 'CL'.
The first entry in the book is number 1479 and is dated 28 December 1979, so it is possible that an earlier book was kept. The whereabouts of other records are unknown as at July 2015. More information about patients who were admitted to Enfield can be found in GRS16004.
Arranged chronologically.
