Community meeting minutes - Enfield Hospital (GRS/16028)

This series contains a minute book from 'Community Meetings' held at Enfield Hospital.

The community meetings included medical and nursing personnel as well as patients (all patients were invited to attend the meetings), with the aim of giving every member of the hospital community an opportunity to express his or her feelings about any matter.

Subjects covered in the meetings include: planning events, complaints (mostly from patients regarding food, drink, hot water, doctors, nurses, artificial flowers), and notices of repairs to be made to hospital facilities and equipment. Some complaints from patients involve other patients and appear to have been directly written to nursing staff to act upon. Other issues were personal in nature, including questions about their treatment, and there are some brief notes about patients' histories. It is not clear who recorded the minutes, but some appear to have been recorded by patients.

The meetings were complementary to the Patients' Government meetings held around the same time, which was a group of patient representatives who appear to have reported at the Community meetings. From 1977, the two meetings were combined into one 'community meeting'. Patients' Government meeting minutes can be found in GRS 16027.
