Description
This series contains index cards relating to in-patients at the Enfield Receiving House, later Hospital, from 1958 to 1969.
There are a few different sequences of cards:
Bundles 1, 2 and 3 appear to have been compiled by social workers and record patient details such as name, name of clinic, admission number, admission date, age, address, marital status, religion, address and name of nearest relative. They have been annotated if a patient was transferred to another hospital. A number have further hand-written annotations relating to education, employment, nationality, social class/status and sometime diagnosis and treatment. These cards may have been used for a social work research project.
Bundles 4 and 5 relate to patients referred to social workers for assistance before discharge from the hospital. Information recorded may include name, address, age, doctor, diagnosis, admission date, discharge date, relatives, and reason referred. Reasons include: to discuss family situation, financial assistance, help with Public Trustee or sick benefits forms, or accomodation issues.
Bundle 6 appear to contain notes of clinical assessments. Information recorded may include name, admission date, age, marital status, symptoms, behaviour and diagnosis. These cards are only for admissions from February 1961, and may have been a sample for a research project.
These cards were transferred to Glenside Hospital when Enfield Hospital closed in 1981, and their context was lost. Due to the short date range of the cards (most dating from 1960-1961) it is possible that these cards represent a sample of patients for a research study.
Each bundle is arranged alphabetically by surname. The bundles have had a sequential number imposed.
