Reports into coordinated cadastre for South Australia, annual single number series - Survey Division, Department of Lands (GRS/18045)

This series contains four volumes of reports about coordinated cadastre in South Australia from 1986 to 1992.

Cadastre relates to defining land boundaries and using coordinates in cadastral surveys was suggested to ensure the accuracy and to clear up confusion or misunderstanding of land boundaries. Under the Survey Act 1992, coordinates of boundary surveys were legally accepted as evidence of land boundaries.

A feasibility study into the adoption of a coordinated cadastre for South Australia was established on 20 December 1984 with Ministerial approval and the Land Registration and Information Service of the Maritime Provinces of Canada (LRIS) was chosen to conduct the study. They engaged local consultants, APTECH, and the study was developed by LRIS, APTECH and the Department of Lands and overviewed by an Advisory Committee. The Committee comprised the Surveyor-General, the Registrar-General, the Assistant Surveyor-General, the Manager of the Cadastral Improvement Branch, and a number of external nominees and representatives from APTECH.

Report 1/86 (2 volumes) is the report from the initial feasibility study. Volume 1 includes the final reports by LRIS and APTECH. Volume 2 includes appendices and biographies of all the people involved in the study.

Report 15/86 is the implementation plan for coordinated cadastre in South Australia by G.L. Smith.

Report 1/92 is a review recommended in the LRIS report that 'early in 1991 the Department of Lands in South Australia review the merits of giving legal status to coordinate values', which included redrafting the Surveyors Act 1975 to become the Survey Act 1992. This report was written by Kim Nisbet, Survey Operations Branch, Lands SA.

The numbering system of these reports suggests that they formed a larger sequence of reports from the Department of Lands, but these three reports were appear to be the full set relating to coordinated cadastre in South Australia.
