Nominal list of orphaned and deserted children taken out of the Destitute Asylum (GRS/3822)

This series may be a predecessor volume to GRG 28/7, Register of Children Apprenticed, Adopted, or Licensed to Service, 1862-1872.

Information includes Register Number (on Admittance); Date Leaving the Destitute Asylum; Name of the Child; Age of the Child; With Whom Placed; Residence; By Whom Recommended; Date of Return to the Destitute Asylum; and, Remarks.

The volume is in chronological order by date the child left the Destitute Asylum.

Some children were adopted as evident in the remarks column: 'I hereby agree to take from the Destitute Asylum ....... to adopt as my own child, to supply him/her with good and sufficient food and clothing and to give him/her a decent education.'

Arranged chronologically.

For index see the Special Lists in the Research Centre. One list is indexed alphabetically by name of child and the other list is indexed alphabetically by name of foster parent. The second list records if a child was returned to his or her parents with the code 'F' for father, 'M' for mother or 'P' for parents, not by their surname.
