Description

This series contains a Register of prosecutions under the Education Act, 1915. The volume was maintained by the Education Department between 1928 and 1959, and records details of prosecutions of parents relating to non-enrolment, compulsory attendance and habitual truancy.

The register records: year, prosecution number, section of the Act, parent's name, address, child's name, age at time of prosecution, certified date of child's absence, school attended, prosecuting officer, court locality (court fees sent, amount, date), result of prosecution (fine, costs, time allowed for payment), date of hearing, remarks.

The sections of the Act most frequently prosecuted under were s42 (relating to compulsory attendance) and s48 (relating to habitual truants). For the s48 entries, the remarks column may record if and for how long the child was committed to the Industrial School, a reformatory or a children's home as a result of the prosecution.

The volume is self-indexed by parent name.

Arranged chronologically.
