Description
This series comprises six volumes which record daily returns of boys in the Boys' Reformatory School, Magill from 1924 to 1971. This institution is also referred to as the Reformatory School and the Training School in the volumes. The volumes are called 'Daily return of Boys' or 'Daily record of movements of inmates'.
The information in volumes 1 to 3 (1924 to 1955) is entered into pre-printed grids, two weeks to a page. For each day is recorded: number admitted, number left and total in school. The entries have been annotated with the names of the boys concerned, and in some cases extra detail such as: to court, absconded, readmitted.
Volumes 4 to 6 (1955 to 1971) contains information entered into pre-printed volumes, 1 week to a page. The columns are: day, date, admitted, discharged, number in school and remarks. The boys names are entered in the relevant columns. Some of the abbreviations in this last volume include: 'OP' on probation, 'OR' on remand, 'WE' weekend leave, 'READ' re-admitted.
