Description
This series comprises three volumes of diet books kept by the Boy's Reformatory, Magill from 1947 to 1965 (the volume for 1952-1959 is lacking).
The volumes are pre-printed with columns for breakfast, dinner and tea for each day of the week. At the foot of each page is the 'daily routine', being the times each meal was served. Each page is signed by the Superintendent or Matron, as well as the Medical Officer who approved the food served.
A sample day's menu, from Friday 28 July, 1950 was:
Breakfast: rolled oats, rissoles (eggs for Roman Catholics), bread, jam, tea, oranges..
Dinner: roast mutton (eggs for Roman Catholics), mashed potatoes, cauliflower, stewed apple and sauce.
Tea: pea soup, stewed fruit and blancmange, bread, butter, vegemite, jam and tea.
No names of individual boys are recorded in this volume.
This system of recording daily menus in diet books appears to have ceased in July 1965, as the remainder of volume three is blank.
Arranged chronologically.
