Description

This series comprises two (2) volumes recording pocket money and rewards paid for work done by boys in the Boy's Reformatory, Magill from 1954 to 1956 and 1961 to 1965. The volume(s) covering Sep 1956 to Sep 1961 are lacking.

The inside front cover of volume 1 includes two pieces of correspondence (dated 03/02/1953 and 07/12/1954) from the Secretary of the Children's Welfare and Public Relief Department to the Superintendent of the Reformatory regarding these payments. The correspondences states that the purpose of the payment of pocket money and rewards for services rendered was to improve the boys' work and conduct. It also states that these payments include those for work done in the garden at 'Lochiel Park' as well as at the Reformatory.

The pages of these volumes are ruled into columns which are headed: date, cash received, Prefects, Group I, Group II, Group III, Group IV, amount dispersed. Each group received different amounts of money for their work. The surnames of the boys are entered into the relevant group column.

Arranged chonologically.
