Description
This series comprises notebooks kept by Superintendents and Matrons in charge of single females who emigrated under the Domestic Helpers Scheme or youths who emigrated as agricultural laborers. Most of these emigrants were assisted but some were nominated from South Australia.
The format differs between notebooks. Some are diaries that give details of the journey such as weather, illness, activities on the ship and ashore, as well as any conduct incidents. Others give name and berth number for each supervised passenger and remarks about their conduct during the journey. For some voyages more than one type of notebook is present.
For similar records see also GRG7/23, Correspondence files of the Immigration Officer.
