Description
This series comprises records of family care meetings, convened under the Child Protection Act 1993 and amendments, for families of children aged 0 - 18 years referred by Families SA or the Youth Court.
Family Care Meetings commenced in 1995. They are convened by Care and Protection Coordinators from the Care and Protection Unit and occur when Families SA have identified that there are Care and Protection concerns relating to children and arrangements need to be made for the children. The meetings enable the family to come together to address the concerns, putting a plan in place that is agreed to by Families SA and the coordinator. Meetings are attended by a child advocate, parents or guardians, other family members such as aunts, uncles and grandparents, friends (support for family members), Families SA representative, cultural advisor for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, others who have important information about the situation, eg Psychologist, Child Protection workers. The child may attend if appropriate.
The files document this process. They include the referral from Families SA or the Court, other reports, correspondence, file notes, outcomes of Court Hearings, acknowledgement of referral, copy of invitation. Also included is the signed Record of Decision from the meeting which will indicate either an agreed outcome of arrangements for the child's care and protection or no decision. If no meeting was held this outcome is advised to Families SA by letter from the Coordinator. If a review of the original meeting occurs a copy of review reports and any further outcomes are also included. The records emanate from the Care & Protection Unit located at the Youth Court. The A4 size files are folded in half lengthwise with the file number, child's name and reason for referral on the cover. From 1998 until November 2007 each child was assigned a file number, but records relating to more than one child in a family group were maintained as a single file.
The file prefix in this case is CPREG, with files arranged by annual single number.
