Description

This series contains visitors' book from the Home for Incurables from 1879 to 1925.

Volume 1 (November 1879 - September 1890) began recording all people who visited the Home for Incurables. From May 1888, official visitors (including people attending official events, committee members, doctors and other visiting medical professionals) were recorded separately. The visitor's book continued to be used until September 1890 to record people conducting Church services, performing at concerts, volunteers, or individuals who appear to have been visiting patients (patients are not named) and also people conducting Church services or concerts, or volunteers.

Volume 2 (September 1890 - November 1925) follows on directly from Volume 1 and records the same kinds of visitors (personal visitors, Church representatives, performers, volunteers) until November 1925.

Early visitors of note were Their Royal Highnesses, Prince Edward (Prince Albert Victor of Wales) and Prince George (later King George V), who visited the Home on 19 June 1881 and signed their names 'Edward' and 'George'.

The whereabouts of other visitors' books that note these kinds of visitors is unknown as at June 2021. For 'official' visitors' books, see GRS 17720.
