Description
This series contains official visitors' books from the Home for Incurables, later known as the Julia Farr Centre, from 1888 to 1983 (with very infrequent entries between 1967 and 1983).
Official visitors were those who were members of Home for Incurables committees, including the House Committee, Visiting Committee and Building Committee, as well as people who were assigned to visit and inspect the Home ("Visitor for the month"), people attending official events, and doctors and dentists.
Until May 1888, official visitors were recorded in the general visitors' book (see GRS 17707).
Volume 1 (May 1888 - March 1938) is titled "Official Visitors' Record" and the early visitors appear to have been members of committees, as well as the designated "Visitor for the month". Visits by doctors and dentists are also included in this register, generally noting the patient's name but no details of treatment etc.
Volume 2 (April 1938 - May 1983) records official visitors until around 1946, after which time it was used only to record doctors' visits. It appears to have been known within the Home for Incurables as an "attendance book". It was used up until May 1967 and was converted to a visitors' book from September 1971 after visiting physicians were no longer required to complete the attendance book. However, it was only used to record four more visits from 1979 to 1983, none of which appear to record visits to individual residents.
Arranged chronologically.
