Description
This series mainly comprises "Personal disposition/property advice" forms for the Magill Training Centre from 1993 to 1996. ("Personal disposition/property advice" forms for the South Australia Youth Training Centre [SAYTC] at Magill from 1978 to 1993 are archived in GRS 6643).
The forms are also referred to as 'Court disposition forms'. The records are in the format of volumes of carbon duplicates of Department for Family and Community Services pre-printed forms. The forms acted as a receipt for the movement of an inmate from the Centre to Court, and indicated whether the individual was to be returned to the Centre or released (providing no further detention order was made by the Court). They were filled in by the Supervisor of the Centre, and were forwarded to the Officer in charge of the detention facility of the Juvenile/Children's Court. Information recorded includes: name, date, name of Court, name of Centre, list of property held in safekeeping while in Court and signed acknowledgement of return of property.
This series also contains "Receipt for mandate and/or person named thereon" forms for the McNally Training Centre at Magill from 1977 to 1979. ("Receipt for mandate and/or person named thereon" forms for the South Australia Youth Training Centre [SAYTC] at Magill from 1979 to 1990 are archived in GRS 6643).
These records are in the format of volumes of carbon duplicates of Department for Community Welfare pre-printed forms. The forms acted as a receipt for the movement of a mandate and/or individual from the South Australian Police to Magill. Information recorded includes: police station, mandate number and date, name of individual, name of Centre, physical condition of person, date and time received. Later forms also include a list of property. The forms were filled in by the Supervisor of the Centre, and the original given to the Police.
This series also contains a variety of other records of the Magill Training Centre and predecessors. These include: sick parade logs 1968-1974, postage stamp book 1940-1969, workshop supervisor book 1969-1971, checklists of nightshift handover procedures 1996 and property receipt books 1973-1974.
At the time these records were archived, some correspondence from 1964-1980 was placed into file covers and called 'Administration files' and included in this series. Subjects included in these files includes statistics, leave, transfers, maintenance and incidents.
Apart from the "Personal disposition/property advice" and the "Receipt for mandate and/or person named thereon" forms, many of the records which have been placed in this series do not contain the names of the boys in the Centre.
