Description

This series comprises building registers created by the Corporation of the City of Port Adelaide between about 1910 and 1993. These records gives details of building applications approved by the Corporation. Typical information includes date, name of owner, name of applicant, allotment and section nos., and description of alteration etc.

From about 1910 to 1960 these registers were leather bound volumes. The heading of each page was 'Returns of plans and specifications submitted under the Building Act'. Each plan registered was given a single running number. The number sequence ran across years up to number 5878 in 1960.

In 1960, the format changed to loose leaf sheets which were headed 'Register of plans submitted under the Building Act'. The plans registered in this format were allocated an annual single number, e.g. 1/1979 was the first plan registered in 1979. These loose leaf sheets were maintained in binders, although some remain as bundles of loose sheets. From about 1986 onwards, the sheets were headed 'Building register'.

Each volume contains an index, alphabetical by applicants name.
